The host of the Angel FM morning show, Nana Yaa Brefo, has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen for making implausible campaign promises. On a recent episode of her show, the journalist criticized the two front-runners for making what she described as ridiculous campaign pledges that put party interests ahead of the interests of the country. “Despite the fact that Ghana is not yet independence, Alan keeps promising to pay constituency executives because he thinks we are morons and wants us to believe him. Alhaji [Bawumia] is pledging appointment to ten party members in each seat, on the other hand. They’ll run a campaign for you based on your promise, and when they show up for the job, you’ll start questioning them about their credentials. The majority of Ghanaians are not intelligent, but we have all realized that this is not their fault. What kind of absurd nation is this? Are campaigns conducted in other nations the same way? How, how much, and on what basis do you commit to compensate constituency executives? Why don’t you start it now if you could pay them?” she said angrily. Ten candidates, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, have been traveling the nation to win over party delegates ahead of the NPP’s presidential primary in November. When elected flagbearer and then president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to select 10 party members from each constituency to positions in the cabinet. On the other side, Mr. Kyerematen has declared that during his administration, all party delegates will be given a monthly salary and a social security plan.
