Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars, has decided to retire from professional football and will never score for Ghana again.
Gyan last scored for the Black Stars in a friendly match against the USA in Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford in 2017.
The 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year scored an incredible free kick as a consolation goal on the night as Ghana lost the game 2-1. This was his 51st international career goal.
Following a statement on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, the all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars has now ended his football career.
He remarked, in an emotional address, “It is time…It is time, that voice has been screaming in my ears, and I’ve given in. As I formally leave the field of play for football, IT IS TIME TO HANG THE JERSEY AND BOOTS IN GLORY.
