After defeating Tunisia’s U-20 squad convincingly by a score of 4-0 earlier today, Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, earned third place at the ongoing 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles were granted the opportunity to place third despite failing to advance to the tournament’s finals even though they had already qualified for the U-20 World Cup.
In order to compete with their Tunisian colleagues, who were also striving for a medal, they had an uphill battle.
Ibrahim Muhammad scored the game’s first goal in the ninth minute, though, giving Coach Isa Ladan Bosso’s team a commanding lead. At halftime, the difference between the two teams turned out to be just the goal.
The Flying Eagles improved in the second half and added three more goals, with Ahmed Abdullahi and Sunday Jude both recording goals. The U-20 Nigerian squad won thanks to two goals by Sunday Jude.
With the victory, Nigeria’s U-20 team improved to an excellent record during the tournament and placed third overall at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles will now concentrate on the 2019 U-20 World Cup, where they want to have a greater effect.
