Amakye Dede, a highlife artist from Ghana, has accused Kiki Banson of forcing him to formally enthrone Kuami Eugene as the “King of Future Highlife” live on stage at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
This comes after the highlife veteran said that he was coerced against his will to engage in the behavior that was popular on social media four years ago during an appearance on Asaase radio.
Amakye Dede said in the interview that at first he even tried to surrender the crown that had been presented to him to someone else.
Amakye Dede, however, without hesitation named famous music executive Kiki Banson as the person behind the act in a recent interview with Abeiku Santana.
“I’m telling you up front that Kiki was the one who bestowed the crown on me. I had to crown Eugene because of him. He first handed it to me, and then I gave it to Robberman, one of my lads, to set it down. They compelled me to take an action that I didn’t want to take. You may check to see whether Kiki handed me the crown by giving him a call if you’d like. Call him immediately,” he said.
Is that Kiki Banson you’re talking about?” the perplexed presenter, Abeiku Santana, then inquired.
Why should he treat me this way?” Amakye Dede responded.
The VGMAs’ producers, Charterhouse, have now distanced themselves from the events that occurred on their stage in the past.
Amakye Dede’s disclosure prompted Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communication at Charterhouse, to deny any involvement in planning the crowning ceremony.
I am a little perplexed by the claim that event organizers are accountable since we did not plan any crowning ceremonies, he said.
