It’s not in the interest of the commission to disenfranchise any eligible voter – EC

Jean Mensah, the head of the Electoral Commission, has refuted charges that the commission is purposefully disenfranchising eligible voters in the present Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

According to her, the commission has no intention of disenfranchising eligible voters.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four other opposition parties have requested a court order against the current Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

They claim that the EC’s decision to limit registration to district offices alone is an effort by the commission to disenfranchise potential voters ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

In a public address today, September 18, 2023, the chairperson stated that they are striving to guarantee that individuals who are qualified are enrolled in the exercise.

“We’ve heard from various sources that the commission is disenfranchising eligible voters; this is false.”

“It is not in the interest of the commission to disenfranchise any eligible voter,” she stated.
