Big Akwes, a Kumawood actor, cried on live television, claiming that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has failed to honor vows made to Kumawood players who campaigned for him.
Big Akwes showed his displeasure by stating that he personally provided money to the NPP’s campaign.
“All of us are aware that we voted for our president Nana Akufo-Addo to come and heal us (amid tears),” Big Akwes remarked in an emotional interview with TVXYZ over the weekend. We provided for them in Kumasi in 2016, and I, Big Akwes, paid money to the NPP.
“So, if he can give us sweet words and, at the end of the day, he will do this to us, our president Nana Akufo-Addo, what we are telling him is that the hands that we used to vote for him, the same hands will decide this time.”
The actor’s emotional outpouring has brought the light President Akufo-Addo’s alleged unfulfilled promises to Kumawood performers.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the 2024 national elections, certain Kumawood performers have endorsed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Kumawood members, called “Artists for the NDC,” have shown tenacity and a determination to help John Dramani Mahama and the NDC salvage Ghana from what they regard as a failed NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
