‘Freedom and Justice’ on Ghana’s coat of arms, according to former president John Dramani Mahama, must serve as a beacon for every Ghanaian. The former president stated in his Republic Day statement on July 1, 2023, that access to justice in the nation should not be expensive. “Freedom and Justice cannot serve as nothing more than a decorative element on our coat of arms. Every Ghanaian must use it as a moral compass and a lighthouse. Imagine Ghana, he added, where justice and freedom are not simply abstract concepts but rather a potent force leading every citizen toward a better future. “A Ghana where everyone is protected and provided for, regardless of their background or circumstances” A Ghana where people can rely on our institutions and courts to uphold constitutional rights and administer fair justice, according to Mr. Mahama. “A Ghana where speaking out against injustice is not only acceptable but encouraged,” he concluded. With the vibrant colors of our flag serving as a constant reminder of our common values and aspirations, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating the prosperous Ghana that we all envision. The former leader added that July 1 will continue to be Ghana’s Republic Day. It belongs to our past! And it will live on in our history, he continued.
