The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has been given official confirmation by CAF, with the opening game set for Saturday, January 23, 2024.
The Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, will host both the opening ceremony and the game.
The final day of the four-week competition among the top 24 countries in Africa will be February 11, 2024.
The 34th iteration of the competition will take place in Cote d’Ivoire for the second time, having been staged there in 1984, when Cameroon won for the first time.
Six other nations have confirmed their participation in the competition, joining the host nation after this past weekend’s exciting qualifier round.
The nations that have qualified are Senegal, the reigning champion, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Tunisia.
After the matches on matchdays five and six, which will take place in June and September, respectively, the final 17 spots will be decided.
The final draw for the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire will take place in September of this year, according to CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba.
For the upcoming edition of its flagship competition, which presently holds the record for being Africa’s biggest event and has seen a sharp increase in global interest over the past several months, CAF is expecting record global TV viewership and stadium attendances.
As was clearly demonstrated in the recently concluded CAF competitions, the CAF has made significant strides to improve the stadium attendance experience and viewing experience of its competitions through the introduction of cutting-edge broadcast technology as well as digital engagement, producing a world-class product that is consumed in real time globally.
