BECE candidates barred from wearing socks, watches into exam halls

The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Education Office in Accra has recently implemented many directives to regulate the behaviour of applicants participating in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the current year. These directives encompass various measures, such as the prohibition of wearing socks during the examination.

Students are required to wear exclusively flat open sandals, without the use of socks, when entering the examination hall.

In addition, candidates are prohibited from wearing wrist watches and are not allowed to own mobile phones or any other electronic devices.

The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been designated to take place from Monday, August 7th to Friday, August 11th.

The set of guidelines consisting of eleven points, known as the dos and don’ts for examinations, primarily seek to address the prevalent issue of examination malpractice, which is now a widespread problem at the national level.

The letter with the orders was signed by Charles Odoom, the Municipal Director of Education for Weija-Gbawe. It was thereafter forwarded to all public and private schools within the municipality for their attention.
